Unbuilt
Oatley
Inside out
On a steep waterfront site above the Georges
River in Sydney, a solid masonry ‘tower’ house is
re-engineered for family life adding new levels
and amenity and a better connection to
landscape, while reducing the building footprint.
A vertical solution
To reduce site demolition, the sound base structure was retained and its clipped-on balconies removed. Two new floors were added and the old interiors reconfigured to incorporate a new lift though the five levels. Outdoor rooms are carved into the structure. Interior function and flow are improved with a separate parents’ level and kids’ level, and a new rumpus/games level at the building base, opening to the river-edge garden.
